AirFoil FAQ

  • How high can you fly?
The regulations for the R/C hobbyist will limit you to 400 ft.
  • Where can you fly?
The 1/8 and 1/4 scales can be flown from a backyard or park. You generally need a 100 ft. x 50 ft. clearing for safe operation on the larger units. Always be aware of power lines.
  • Can you fly in strong winds?
Each of our units will fly the best in low wind conditions. We recommend max. winds of 15 mph with no gusts.
  • How long can you fly?
The fuel tank size and battery charge are the only things limiting your flight times. The nitro engines will allow 3- to 45 minutes and gas engines will allow 2 to 3 hours of flight time.
  • How far can you fly?
Usually in the line of site, about 1 mile
  • What is your return policy?
All sales are final. All units larger than the 1/4 scale unit are not returnable. Each kit is custom-made and therefore not available for resale.
  • What happens if the engine quits?
If the engine inadvertently dies, the unit will glide in with a smooth landing.
  • What R/C skills are needed?
The 1/8 and 1/4 scale units can be used to teach and learn to fly radio controlled aircraft. The 1/3 and 1/2 scales are for the general modeller who has basic flying skills.
  • What if you lose control?
If this should happen and you are over a safe landing area, shut the engine off and let the unit land itself.
  • How durable are the powered parachutes?
The materials supplied are aircraft grade wood and aluminum. When built as specified they are very rugged and any needed repairs are simple.
  • How long will a parachute last?
The chutes are constructed of ripstop nylon and kevlar lines. The are very durable and brightly colored. If soiled, sponge clean with water and a mild soap. Any fuel spray should be cleaned from the chute in the same manner before storage.
